The part you need depends on two measurements: the liner outer diameter and the chase top opening size. DuraFlex SS uses a slip-fit crown with a single stainless band clamp; DuraFlex Pro uses a flanged crown with two clamp positions and a wider weather skirt.

Check the stamped band near the top of your liner - “DF-SS” or “DF-Pro” tells you the series. The crown itself carries a small embossed size marking on the underside rim, visible with a flashlight. If that marking is corroded away, measure the liner O.D. with a tape measure: common Sherman Oaks sizes are 5.5″ (for 4″ liner), 6.5″ (for 5″ liner), 7.5″ (for 6″ liner), and 8.75″ (for 8″ liner). The 7.5″ and 8.75″ sizes are less common in the 1960s ranch-style homes along Dickens Street and Valley Vista, where builders typically spec’d 5″ and 6″ liners for the smaller fireboxes.

• Camera inspection shows creosote wash-down on the liner exterior. This means water is entering above the crown, carrying surface creosote with it. It’s a clear indicator that the crown-to-liner joint is compromised, even if the crown looks intact from outside.
