A Emberly company - serving Sherman Oaks, CA

DuraFlex Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Repair in Sherman Oaks: What to Know First

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney repair in Sherman Oaks with written pricing agreed before any work starts, and most repairs are completed within one to three business days of inspection. Our process begins with an NFPA 211 Level 2 camera scan of your flue system, followed by a documented photo record and a fixed written quote - no hourly surprises, no pressure to commit on the spot. If you own a DuraFlex liner, cap, or flashing component and you’re seeing water stains, draft problems, or visible deterioration, call us at (424) 414-6048. We’ll schedule a camera inspection, name the exact problem, and give you the repair price in writing before anyone picks up a tool.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex SW (stainless steel flexible liner) - crevice corrosion at the tee connection. The SW series uses a 316Ti stainless alloy that holds up well to normal flue gases, but in Sherman Oaks we see accelerated pitting where the tee body meets the flex section, especially in homes within a mile of Ventura Boulevard where older fireboxes run cooler and produce more condensate. The condensate pools in the tee crevice, the alloy breaks down from the outside in, and you get a pinhole leak that shows up as water staining on the firebox wall. We cut back to sound metal, install a DuraFlex OEM replacement tee with a condensate drain adapter where the install geometry allows, and seal the joint with high-temp silicone rated to 600°F. The camera goes back down to verify the repair before we pack up.
  • DuraFlex 304 (economy flexible liner) - premature fatigue at the first bend above the smoke chamber. The 304 series is lighter gauge than the SW, and in two-story Sherman Oaks homes built in the 1950s and 60s, that first offset coming off the smoke chamber puts cyclic stress on the corrugations. After ten to fifteen years of heating and cooling cycles, the metal work-hardens and cracks circumferentially. We don’t patch this - we replace the damaged section with DuraFlex SW or, if the budget’s tight and the run is straight, a compatible 316Ti aftermarket flex from Olympia Chimney with the same UL 1777 listing. Either way, the new section is joined with a proper flex-to-flex coupling, not tape or sealant.
  • DuraFlex relining system - mortar joint failure in the surround. When DuraFlex is installed as part of a full relining, the annular space between the flex and the clay tile is supposed to be packed with Thermix or similar pourable insulation. We’ve found three Sherman Oaks jobs where the original installer skipped this step or used regular mortar that shrank and left voids. The liner overheats locally, the surrounding clay spalls, and you get a hot spot that can transfer to adjacent framing. We pull the liner, remove the bad fill, repack with proper pourable insulation, and reinstall - with photos of the packed annulus before the liner goes back in.
  • DuraFlex chimney cap - lid separation from the mesh screen. The DuraFlex standard cap uses a spot-welded lid-to-screen joint that can fatigue in the Santa Ana wind events Sherman Oaks gets every fall. The lid lifts, the mesh deforms, and now you’ve got an entry point for water, leaves, and roof rats. We stock replacement DuraFlex caps, but we also carry Gelco and Famco equivalents with a continuous hem joint that’s more wind-resistant. If the flue size matches, we’ll quote both and let you choose.
  • DuraFlex top plate / storm collar - sealant degradation at the roof penetration. The top plate itself is usually sound 316 stainless, but the factory sealant bead between the plate and the existing flue tile dries out in the dry Sherman Oaks heat after seven to ten years. Water tracks down the outside of the liner, pools in the smoke shelf, and you smell musty combustion odor when you first light the fire. We remove the old sealant mechanically, inspect the plate for warping (it happens if the chimney ever back-puffed), reseal with a high-temp RTV that stays flexible to 500°F, and replace the storm collar if it’s corroded through at the lap joint.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers, checks availability, and books your NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection. You’ll get a text when your tech is en route.
  2. 2
Camera inspection. We run a chimney camera the full length of your DuraFlex liner and the surrounding masonry. Corrine Halstead and her crew have been reading flues across Sherman Oaks for years - findings first, opinion second. You get the footage on a tablet screen while we’re still on the ladder.
  3. 3
Written quote on site. We name the exact DuraFlex part that failed, whether we’re using OEM or a listed aftermarket equivalent, and the full repair price. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard requires this in writing before work starts - no exceptions.
  4. 4
Repair with documentation. Your assigned tech performs the repair, photographs each critical step, and runs a final camera pass or draft test to confirm function.
  5. 5
Photo record and warranty. You receive a documented photo record of the completed work, per Haven Standard Clause 4 - our practice since 2009. The repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.
